Our History
ChipTorque was founded in 1993 by our Technical Director, Lachlan Riddel, to produce performance programs for automotive applications. The need for program expandability and to protect our intellectual property led to our first design and production of ChipTorque ‘chip’. Other chip designs followed as our range of programs for different car types increased.
When automotive technology progressed from chips to integrated circuits it became necessary to design another delivery method. The XEDE Processor was created as a piggy back style device in order to retain all the safety features in the factory ECU while providing a tuning interface that could be used by other tuners.
In late 2006 we relocated to larger premises which now feature both 4WD & 2WD Dyno Dynamics Dyno cells, our design and production centre plus full workshop facilities and new show room. Since the move we have advanced our product line further with the introduction of the Ezy-FLASH PRO, which allows us to Flash tune the original ECU's in Subaru, Mitsubishi and Mazda (currently under development).

We are the exclusive engine management supplier to Mazda Motorsport Australia and are proud of our achievements with the Limited Edition Mazda MX-5 SP, the RX-8 Turbo concept car and Mazda 2, 3 MPS & 6 MPS Rally Cars.
ChipTorque is synonymous with the Summernats Horsepower Heroes, going right back to “The Judge” which was the first vehicle to break 800Hp at the wheels through to Brett Wayne’s VK Commodore running 1,432Hp at the treads.
We know how to do the job right, first time, and produce performance gains that achieve results in power and improvements in the overall drivability of your vehicle. |

Lachlan Riddel
Owner / Technical Director
Lachlan Riddel is the Technical Director and Founder of ChipTorque. Beginning as an over achieving automotive mechanic, his background includes winning the 1988 Apprentice of the Year for all trades and then scoring a QOF Scholarship to further his experience in the international automotive electronic field. This saw him travel to the UK in the early 90s where he took up residence at Superchips UK. It was here that his passion for vehicle programming really took flight and he keenly returned to Australia to bring this technology to the Australian market.
Lachlan founded ChipTorque in 1993 and has since been creating new tuning methods to dyno tune and offer tuning solutions to Australian vehicles from ChipTorque's Gold Coast tuning house as well as throughout Australia through Dealer and Trade outlets. He would have to be one of the most experienced tuners in the world, clocking up countless hours of tuning and development on our dynos and overseas over a broad range of tuning options including ChipTorque products, factory ECUs and many types of aftermarket engine management options.

Rob Stewart
Tuner
As ChipTorque's Dyno Calibration Engineer, Rob's office is the Dyno room, where he spends his days calibrating and tuning ChipTorque products as well as OEM and aftermarket ECU's. He has a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics and has been trained by head Technician Lachlan to perform the bulk of ChipTorque's dyno tuning and diagnostic services.
Rob specialises in the diagnosis and tuning later model vehicles and his thorough understanding of how factory EFI sensors integrate with the factory ECU enables him to deliver the best all round result in performance, driveability and safety for our customer's vehicles. His most memorable car would have to be a custom dyno tune with XFlash for a Ford Mustang 4.6L stroked modular naturally aspirated engine with a Magnesium Ford Racing dual intake length manifold. This was a nice job and sounded great at 7,500rpm. |
